In the Cathedral dedicated to the Patron Saint
is kept a silver reliquary containing the precious relic of the left rib of Santa
Marina that was given in 1870 to the City of Polistena by the Patriarch of
Venice thanks to the intervention of Domenico Valensise.
In the Church of Santa
Maria Formosa, in the lagoon city, the body of the Virgin of Bithynia is preserved.
On July 17, which
according to the Ecclesiastical Calendar is dedicated to Santa Marina Vergine
di Bitinia, at the end of the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration, the ritual of the
kiss of the relic takes places in the cathedral.
The reliquary is taken in
procession with the "Theory of the Saints". It is brought by a member
of each Confraternity and precedes the wooden statue of Santa Marina Vergine.
In August 2000 the body
of the Saint arrived in Polistena from Venice. It stayed here for a week and
was carried in procession on 6 August with the "Teoria dei Santi"
procession.
